Miranda and Aaron were married on September 25, 2010, on the grounds of
the Gran View Restaurant, overlooking the St. Lawrence River. The
day before the wedding was hot and humid. The skies were clear and
the temperatures were in the mid-80's. We had a very nice
rehearsal on Friday night and afterward met at a house that the
Barksdale family rented a few miles away. We enjoyed pizza and a
few drinks and a lot of friendship. The guys stayed the night in
the house while Miranda and her bridal party spent the night at a
cottage on the grounds of the Gran View.
Rain threatened in the early morning hours on Saturday but the skies
cleared by afternoon. It stayed dry throughout the service
although it was a bit breezy with temps in the 60's. All things
considered, it was a beautiful fall day. The ceremony went off
without a hitch. Pastor Orville Eacker conducted the ceremony
which was held on the lower section of the grounds, just above the banks
of the St. Lawrence. Bridesmaids were Miranda's sister Kristin and
two of her friends from college, Kay Urban and Laura Fox. Her Maid
of Honor was another college friend, Kim Harroun. Aaron's
groomsmen were his brothers Moses and Elijah and a good friend, Clifford
Toles. His Best Man was his brother, Isaiah. Miranda's
brother David did a scripture reading.
The reception followed in the Marco's Sunset Dining Room, the banquet
area at the Gran View. The food was amazing and the service and
presentation were exceptional. We had many comments about what a
great time everyone had. Lou Williams and his staff did an
exemplary job as did the deejay, Todd Truax. The Schryver family
thank the Barksdale clan for helping us provide a great time for Miranda
and Aaron and our guests. We even paid the deejay to stay and play
an extra hour. The dance floor was packed from the first dance
right through the end.
Many family members and old friends stayed at the Quality Inn Gran
View, also on the grounds the night following the wedding and
reception. Several of us ended up in one of the rooms after the
reception broke up and enjoyed each others company until the wee
hours. It got a little loud, but we had a great time. The
next morning, several of us joined the Barksdales at the house for a
wonderful breakfast.
Miranda and Aaron took their gifts and a number of other personal
belongings back to their apartment on Sunday afternoon and then headed
to Syracuse for the night before flying off for a week in Aruba.
